Why we show you the whole lot
Barrel Lab™ was built to give buyers something a single sample can’t: clear, consistent information about every barrel in the lot you are buying.
One barrel is not the lot
Barrels filled from the same mash bill and the same production run still age differently. A sample from one barrel tells you about that barrel, not the lot. Three things make each barrel different:
What you get instead
Every Barrel Lab listing carries lot-level detail, so you can judge the whole purchase: the distiller, mash bill, fill dates, entry proof, age, warehouse and the lot’s history, along with Barrel Lab’s Victory Real Value™ estimate, Barrel Intelligence Score and tasting notes where available. We would rather give you the full picture than one barrel’s worth of it.
When a sample is available
We make exceptions where character matters most and variation can be greater:
| Lot | Samples |
|---|---|
| Highly mature lots (10+ years) | Available as a purchase order contingency |
| Unusual mash bills (marked on the listing) | Available as a purchase order contingency |
| Distressed Listings | Not available — sold as is |
| All other lots | Not available — lot-level detail on the listing |
Eligible lots say “Sample available” in the listing’s Know More panel.
How a sample contingency works
- Submit your purchase order as usual and tick Request a sample as a contingency.
- We arrange the sample with the warehouse. The sample fee is $50 plus shipping, confirmed with you before the sample is drawn.
- If the sample meets your expectations, your order proceeds as written. If it doesn’t, you may withdraw your purchase order without obligation.
