ABOUT VICTORY SPIRITS BARREL LAB™

Every listing carries a number. Here is where it comes from.

A broker gives you a price and a story. Barrel Lab™ gives you a score, a valuation, and the inputs behind both — so you can compare two barrels on something other than who is telling you about them.

WHY BARREL LAB™ EXISTS

Buying whiskey should not require taking someone's word for it.

Bulk whiskey has always traded on relationships and phone calls. A broker knows what a barrel is worth; the buyer usually does not. That asymmetry was tolerable when supply was tight and everyone was making money. It is not tolerable now.

Barrel Lab™ is the answer to a question that took years to formulate: what would a buyer need to see to compare two barrels honestly? Not tasting notes as marketing copy — a score. Not an asking price — a valuation. Not a promise about yield — a model, with its assumptions stated.

Every listing on the platform carries the same analysis, run the same way, whether it flatters the lot or not. Buyers are licensed trade only, verified against the TTB registry. And the platform now runs past the barrel: co-pack, glass, brand, compliance, and route to market, so the analysis you use to buy is the same analysis that follows the liquid to the shelf.

WHO IT IS FORLicensed distillers, non-distilling producers, brands, wholesalers, and importers. Verified against the TTB active permit registry.
WHAT IS ON EVERY LISTINGBIS™ score, VRV™ valuation, warehouse climate, estimated yield, and a full cost-per-bottle build.
WHAT IT IS NOTNot a consumer marketplace, not a brokerage, and not a place where the price moves depending on who is asking.
WHAT COMES NEXTBarrel to Bar™ — co-pack, finishing, glass, brand and creative, compliance, and DtC, run through vetted partner panels.
MEET THE BARREL LAB™ PROFESSOR

Better insights. Better bourbon.

“Great bourbon isn't luck. It's data, dedication, and a little madness.”

A fictional character with a very real point. The Professor is the one who insists every barrel gets the same workup — flavor, finish, yield, value — whether the lot is glamorous or ordinary. What follows below is how each of those questions actually gets answered. No mystery, no phone call required.

ANATOMY OF A LISTING

The Professor asks four questions. Here is how we answer them.

Flavor, finish, yield, value — plus the warehouse conditions that shape all four. Every listing on the platform runs the same analyses, in the same way, whether the barrel is a commodity four-year or a single-cask artisan release. Not a subset, and not only the ones that flatter the lot.

FLAVOR — WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

BIS™ — Barrel Intelligence Score

A composite quality score from 1 to 10, built from the barrel's own facts rather than its reputation. Five dimensions are scored independently, then weighted into one number you can rank against every other listing on the platform.

  • Taste (30%) — a sensory model derived from mash bill, entry proof, and age, weighting balance and finish length most heavily
  • Value efficiency (25%) — how the lot's ask compares to its valuation, normalized against every other listing in the feed rather than judged in isolation
  • Marketability (20%) — accessibility of the profile, category demand, price position, and maturity tier
  • Producer (15%) — documented production record and trade standing
  • Origin (10%) — state of distillation and the regional maturation conditions that come with it

Scores band as Exceptional (8.5+), Strong (7.0+), Good (5.5+), Fair (4.0+), and Low. Because value efficiency is normalized across the live feed, a lot's BIS can move when the surrounding market moves, even if nothing about the barrel changed.

VALUE — WHAT IS THE REAL RETURN?

VRV™ — Real Value

What the barrel is actually worth right now, expressed as a number you can check a seller's ask against. VRV blends several independent market signals rather than trusting any single one, because every individual source in this market has a reason to be high or low.

  • Weighted blend of independent signals — no single source can move the number on its own
  • Live marketplace comparables — the largest single input, refreshed against actual current listings
  • Insured-value and broker-list references — cross-checks from outside the marketplace
  • Producer reputation weighting — applied as a modifier, never as the basis
  • Artisan protection — small-batch lots with no true comparable are valued against an artisan class baseline instead of being dragged to commodity

VRV is a valuation, not a quote or an appraisal. It is a reference point for negotiation and does not guarantee any resale price.

FINISH — WHAT CAN IT BECOME?

Warehouse climate

Two barrels filled the same week from the same mash bill will not taste the same or gauge the same if they aged in different buildings. Barrel Lab™ tracks the facility and the rickhouse position, so climate is a field on the listing rather than something you find out after the dump.

  • Facility identified by TTB permit — custody and location on the record, not asserted
  • Rickhouse and position within the facility where reported
  • Climate profile feeds both the maturity read and the yield estimate
YIELD — HOW MANY BOTTLES?

Estimated yield

How much liquid is likely in the barrel today, and how many bottles that becomes at your target proof. This is the number that turns a barrel price into a cost per bottle, and it is the one most often guessed at in a broker conversation.

  • Remaining volume estimated from product, age, climate, and cooperage
  • Evaporation loss applied on an age-banded curve — older barrels lose faster, and the model reflects it
  • Bottle count modeled from entry proof down to your target bottling proof at 750ml

*Estimated by AI, factoring in product, maturity, warehouse climate, and cooperage. Actual volume may vary. Gauging not available unless otherwise stated.

VALUE, CONTINUED — THE FULL COST

COGS analysis

The barrel price is the beginning of the cost, not the end of it. Barrel Lab™ builds the full landed cost per bottle on every listing, so you are comparing what the finished product actually costs rather than what the liquid costs.

  • Barrel cost carried down to a per-bottle basis on estimated yield
  • Federal excise applied per proof gallon at your bottling proof
  • Dry goods, co-pack, freight, and storage layered in at platform partner rates
  • Margin modeled against your target shelf price
FROM BARREL PRICE TO SHELF PRICE

Where the money actually goes.

Every step below is a real line item between the barrel you are looking at and the bottle a customer pays for. Barrel Lab™ runs this build on each listing so the comparison is like for like.

01Barrel costThe purchase price of the liquid, divided across estimated yield.
02Storage to dumpBonded storage and insurance for however long you hold before bottling.
03Dump, blend, proofGauging, filtration, proofing to target, and the loss that comes with each.
04Federal exciseApplied per proof gallon leaving bond — the line most often modeled wrong.
05Dry goodsGlass, closure, label, carton. Stock or custom, quoted through the glass panel.
06Co-pack and bottlingRun charges, changeover, and case-out at platform partner rates.
07Freight and warehousingOutbound to your distributor or fulfillment partner.
08Landed cost per bottleWhat the finished good actually costs you before a single case sells.

NOW TAKE A LOOK INSIDE

Access is verified, not requested.

You will need a DSP number — yours, or your producer partner's — to enter. We check it against the TTB active permit registry at the door, which is why the pricing you see inside is the same pricing everyone else sees.

IF YOUR PERMIT IS NOT FOUND

TTB changed how permits are listed. If your legacy format is DSP-ST-12345, try ST-S-12345 instead — ST being your two-letter state abbreviation. If neither works, contact us and we will verify you manually rather than leave you at the door.

KNOW MORE. BUY SMARTER.

The analysis is on the listing. Not behind a phone call.

Every barrel in the marketplace carries its BIS™, its VRV™, its climate and custody record, its estimated yield, and its cost build. Access is restricted to licensed trade buyers, verified against the TTB active DSP registry.

BIS™, VRV™, yield, and COGS figures are analytical estimates produced from reported and modeled inputs. They are decision-support tools, not appraisals, guarantees, quotes, or offers, and they do not predict resale value or future market conditions. Volume figures are estimates; gauging is not available unless otherwise stated. Barrel Lab™ is open to licensed trade buyers only and is not a consumer marketplace. Methodology is refined on an ongoing basis and figures may be restated as inputs are updated.
