How to get into Barrel Lab, and why it takes a DSP.
Why a DSP?
Whiskey in a barrel hasn't paid federal excise tax yet. It stays "in bond" until it is bottled and removed, and until then it can only move between bonded premises, meaning TTB-permitted Distilled Spirits Plants (DSPs). When a barrel changes hands, the receiving DSP files the transfer in bond.
That is why Barrel Lab verifies every buyer's permit against TTB's permittee list. It keeps the marketplace wholesale-only and every transfer clean.
No DSP? Most distributors don't have one. You can still buy, three ways:
- Enter with your permit numberRegister at the Barrel Lab entrance with your TTB permit number. Permits are checked against TTB's public list.
- Browse live inventorySee listings with VRV™ valuations and BIS™ scores.
- Submit a purchase orderFrom the listing, choose delivery, storage or a bonded storage quote.
- Transfer in bondYour DSP, or the co-packer you nominate, receives the barrels and files the transfer.
- Barrel to Bottle to BarPath Forward takes it from there: bottling, brand, compliance and market.
